If anyone has any personal stories to share regarding supposed hauntings on Staten Island, we'd love to hear them. Maybe we can help to confirm if the location really is haunted.

what about that road where everyone swears a ghost appears if you sit there and turn your headlights off? i cant remember the name of the road....but its down near the water off of hylan blvd towards wolfs pond i think. ive heard the stories about the place from tons of people, especially when i was in my teens. it was one of those places that everyone went to when they were in high school. it always seemed like a scam to me, but who knows?
and when i was younger i used to hear a lot of stories of paranormal things at the conference house. were you guys there already?

I think the block you are talking about is Bedell. Definitely not haunted. It seems it was a reflecton of the light or something like that. It's like a "Staten Island Urban Legend"! We did go to the Conference House park, but not into the house. The CH does not answer requests for investigations from us or any other group that I know of that tried. One other group went during their daytime public tours, but that's it. That doesn't mean I've given up, but there aren't any plans to enter yet! The CH park, by the way, was pretty strange. Cameras wouldn't work, we captured many voices, etc. We actually had someone with us who claimed to be a psychic and she got lots of impressions. Doesn't hold too much weight in our book, but definitely interesting. We posted some of the EVP's here: siparanormalsociety.tripod.com/ConferenceHouse.html

I actually had the opportunity to go into the Conference House itself several years ago...but as Amy said, it was not a private visit. I went during Christmas Time where they were selling handmade crafts down in the basement. LOL I had video taped the whole tour of the home and down in the basement as well. Nothing unusual appeared on the video, but I couldn't fight my creeped out feelings while in the basement. I kept thinking about all of the historical figures that had made history right where I was standing! It was almost a magical feeling. Definitely SUPER...but not SUPERNATURAL. LOLOLOLOL

yes, i think it was bedell. good call! ok so it is an urban legend, thats what i thought. although down one of those streets (by wolfs pond) a long time ago either one or two dead kids that had been murdered were found. so of course the stories of hauntings followed, and i never went there to find out. its different from the bedell story, but probably still bogus (but id like to find out for myself).
when i was younger i used to go to the conference house park a lot (back then it wasnt a park, just the grounds of the house). kristi its funny u mention being creeped out in the basement because a few kids i used to see around there would swear they saw weird things happen in the basement when looking through the outside window. i looked through those windows for a long time and never saw anything, but maybe there was something to it. people also used to tell a story about a bloodstain on the second floor that only appeared when there was a full moon. again, i never believed it and never saw it, but it would be a great place to investigate, if ever given the chance.
haha.....and if the house can make you feel super, as kristi did, then its a win-win situation.

When I was a teenager, we used to drive out to Page Avenue in Tottenville, park on Hylan Blvd. and walk into the woods to see a ghost of a boy (in old fashioned clothes) standing against a tree. I only went once and got the chills when I saw the apparition. I don't know the history behind it but the ghost is standing against a tree with his hands in his pockets with a devious little smirk on his face. CREEPY!!!

When I was a teenager we used to hang out at the conference house alot.... The weird things don't happen at the House itself ...they happen in the woods and grounds around it. We would always hang out on the Cliffs it's on the left side of the conference house... It's old Indian Trails. There is also 2 hidden wells in the woods there where it is said that bodies were found at the bottom when they dried up. I had one experience there that freaked me out....One night about 1 A.M. 3 of us were walking down the cliffs to the grass that goes up to Hylan Blvd. We usually always checked before we came down because cops would sometimes be there ...So we saw that there were no cops and we came down to the lawn. Just as we did my friend pointed out asking what is that when we looked it looked like a Priest hovering about a foot off the ground, not looking at us at all he just started to move toward an old tree That is still there in the front of the house.Well we didn't stick around to check it out we ran like hell. We also have found Pentagrams , animal sacrifice's and other weird things in those woods surrounding the conference house....Check out the surrounding parts , not the actual House It's not haunted.

Exman,
That is very interesting about the spot by the cliffs. We had gone over the summer and had a meeting on the pavilion. Afterwards, we walked to that are, took some photos and did some recordings. One of our investigators saw what appeared to be a cross hovering! We chalked it up to our eyes playing tricks.Hearing that you saw a priest hovering sounds very similar and eerie!
We agree that the house is not haunted but the grounds are. If you look on our page, there is a link to a TAPS Paramagazine article that we were quoted in about the grounds around the CH.

But have you ever heard anything about the wells in the woods? They are still there. Also do some research about 2 women who were killed in those woods in the 1980's....I think the year was either 1986 or 1988. I don't remember. Happy Halloween

Body of Woman Is Found on S.I.
By MARK A. UHLIG Published: October 1, 1987
LEAD: A body believed to be that of a 19-year-old Staten Island college student who disappeared Sept. 9 was found partially buried yesterday afternoon in a wooded area behind a Staten Island high school, the police said.
A body believed to be that of a 19-year-old Staten Island college student who disappeared Sept. 9 was found partially buried yesterday afternoon in a wooded area behind a Staten Island high school, the police said.
The body, clad in black pants and wearing a black plastic watch, was discovered in a shallow grave at about 3:20 P.M. by three volunteers searching for Judith Summerville, 19 years old. Miss Summerville was last seen on her way to Staten Island Community College, where she was a student. according to a police spokesman, Sergeant Raymond O'Donnell.
Miss Summerville was reported missing by her parents at 2 A.M. Sept. 10 when she failed to return to the family's home in the Princess Bay section. At the time of her disappearance, she was reported to have been wearing black sweat pants, a yellow striped blouse, silver loop earrings and a black plastic watch.
Shortly after Miss Summerville was discovered missing, fishermen found her purse in Wolfe's Pond, about half a mile from the site where the body was discovered yesterday.
The body was found under a thin layer of mud and underbrush in a wooded area 1,000 feet behind Tottenville High School at 100 Luten Avenue on Staten Island, Sergeant O'Donnell said.
